My last trip to Mexico was just over a year ago. Now I’m going back, to a different place and for a different reason.
I’m currently at SeaTac waiting for my flight to Guadalajara, and I’ll be spending six nights in Ajijic. I first read about Ajijic a few months ago when I started researching potential retirement locations. I have also been thinking a lot about leaving the country that the USA has become under the current administration.
Ajijic stood out as a good spot for me to consider relocating to. This article in USA Today from last January first enticed me. I did a little more investigation, and I liked everything I discovered. Moderate climate, lots of expats and retirees from the US and Canada, small town feeling but just an hour away from Mexico’s second largest city. Ajijic sits on the north shore of Lake Chapala, Mexico’s biggest lake. And it is very inexpensive.
Just yesterday this article appeared on the Forbes website. This sentence stands out:
Virtually everything about Ajijic is moderate and pleasant.
My Agenda
I have very little planned for the week. My flight tonight on Volaris departs at 10:20 and arrives at 5:28 tomorrow morning. I found a guide who will pick me up at the airport at 8:00, give me a tour of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, Afterwards, he’ll drop me at my Airbnb in Ajijic.
On Monday I am getting a tour of Ajijic real estate from a local realtor.
And that’s it. I’m trying to get a partner for bridge at the local club, but so far I haven’t had any success.
Stay tuned for updates over the course of the week. Based on my busy schedule, I should have time to write a lot, and it will all be very boring.

Ole! Have a good trip!
