Before each trip, I usually post my itinerary so you can follow along. I don’t know who actually reads and follows along with all the details of where I’m going to be staying each day and what activities are on my agenda, but it’s fun to put it all in a post. But this time, I’m going to be doing a secret itinerary.
What that means is I will only reveal where I am when I arrive. It won’t be a secret forever!
I will, however, offer some hints here.
Starting in Mexico
My first stop isn’t really part of the secret itinerary. My boyfriend Luis will be celebrating a milestone birthday, and I’m taking him to Mérida for two days.
We fly direct from GDL to MID on Volaris. We’ll be staying at the Villa Mérida Boutique Hotel.
On our first day we are doing a tour to Chichen Itza. This also includes a visit to a cenote for some swimming and lunch, and a stop in Izamal, a pueblo mágico famous as the “Yellow City.”

Our second day is Luis’ actual birthday. This will be our day to just hang out in Mérida, which is the capital of the state of Yucatán. I’m still trying to find a nice but casual spot to take him for his birthday dinner. There are some very upscale restaurants in Mérida, but he said he prefers something not so fancy.
On our departure day Luis will fly back to GDL, and I will fly on Viva to MEX to be ready for my flight to the first stop on my secret itinerary. I’ll stay overnight at the Courtyard by Marriott and fly out the next morning.
First stop
I start in a place I have been before. The airline I’m flying offers free stopovers, so I’m taking advantage of that with a three-night stay.
Last time I was there, a few of the things I was interesting in seeing were closed for renovation. Now they are open again, so that is what I’m especially looking forward to. There are also some museums I missed that I’ll plan to check out.
OAT #1
My next stop will be in a country I’ve never visited before, where I’ll join a tour with Overseas Adventure Travel. This will be my tenth OAT tour.
OAT offers optional pre-trip and post-trip extensions on all their tours, and I almost always do them. In this case, however, I’m skipping them, because they both go to the countries I’ll be visiting on…
OAT #2
There are a couple of days between my two OAT tours. I’ll be spending them in the city where OAT #1 ends, and I’m planning a few activities that OAT doesn’t include on their itinerary.
This time I’m doing both the pre- and post-trip extensions. The pre-trip and main tour are to two more countries I’ve never visited. And the post-trip is back to the country I’ll be visiting on OAT #1, but a completely different area.
That’s all the hints you’re getting.
If you’re not subscribed to my blog, now would be a good time. I’ll also post some photos on Facebook, but if you subscribe, you’ll get an email when I publish a new post, and you can be the first to know where in the world I am.

Your first stop was easy to figure out. I’ll look forward to following the rest of your itinerary.

Tim, I had to edit your comment so as not to spoil the fun for those who might not figure it out so easily.
